We made it to Fort Snelling and the rain stayed away! It was a great time! Fort Snelling is a place where soldiers trained to get ready for war. A lot of the places that we saw were from the 1800's. One of our favorite places was the blacksmith. Here we learned that they make iron things; such as horseshoes, axes, and iron pots for cooking. These were made by putting iron in hot coals and pumping air on the coals to make them hotter. The hot coals make the iron soft to form metal objects. The blacksmith made us an iron nail. We learned about the hospital. Ask your child how the green toilet works!? They didn't know about germs either, back then! It was exciting to go up to the watch tower and see all of Fort Snelling. A few more highlights of our trip were; the jail, how the slaves worked, the one room school; and the house where General Snelling lived! Enjoy the pictures!
