This concludes our Science Unit on Light and Sound.  The above pictures show the class using mirrors to redirect sunlight.  We learned about light rays and how light reflects onto other things using something with a shiny surface.  We also learned that mirrors refract (or break) light rays to direct the rays to another direction.  Starting Monday, the third grade classes will rotate and our claSS will go to the computer lab with Ms. Waters!
Ugh!  Still haven't figured out how to rotate pictures!  Anyway...Here are a few fun pictures

We enjoyed the mobile lab in our class on Thursday.  We started on IXL in school. IXL is a purchased website to support our math curriculum.  Kids were excited to start using it in school.  We are going to set a class goal of time spent on IXL and work toward a class celebration!  We will keep you posted!

We have had a lot of fun with SOUND!  We have learned about pitch, volume, vibration and sound all through experiments.  Have your child tell you about them!  Next week we will discuss light!

Our first full week!

Happy Friday!  We survived our first full week of school!  This week we got into the real structure of the academics and of school!  We started our Sound Unit this week in Science!  Next week we start the experiments.  Our focus in math is place value.  Some of the above pictures show our math workplaces that support this goal.  The SMARTboard game you see is from a great website with lots of resources that support our math learning.  It is... www.sheppardsoftware.com.
The bottom (sideways) picture is our new behavior clip chart!  Kids in the class are familiar with how this works because they have had it in 2nd grade.  They are able to move up and down the chart according to the choices they make.  If they reach ROCK BOTTOM, they will have a Purple Code Reminder home.  If they reach the top, ROCKSTAR, they get a Shining Star.  The first picture is of our first official Friday Fun Day.  Students who had their work done and had less than 2 Code Reminders were able to go outside at the end of the day and enjoy time with their 3rd grade friends.  Those that didn't finish work in class, and had 2 or more reminders had to stay in.  Bummer!
Have a great weeken

It was a great first week of Third Grade!  Thank you parents, for your support at home to make this week a great success!  We spent a lot of time establishing routines, setting classroom expectations and having fun with our new friends.  Here are a few pictures of our class getting to know each other!  (Need to figure out how to rotate pictures on here).  Have a wonderful weekend!
